Follow along with Dr. Sarah Casali for a Urinary Urgency 101! Urgency is a strong & sudden desire to urinate; and urge urinary incontinence is urinary leakage following a strong & sudden urge to urinate.

With urge urinary incontinence (UUI), the bladder contracts when you do not want it to—otherwise known as “over-active bladder." When someone experiences urgency it's often due to multiple factors. Lifestyle (such as diet & exercise routine, bathroom habits), and psychological factors such as anxiety can all play a role in urinary urgency and urge urinary incontinence.

If you're experiencing a strong sensation to urinate that comes on suddenly and is difficult to ignore or affects your life, you should seek out a pelvic floor physical therapist who can thoroughly assess lifestyle factors as well as physically examine you to figure out the best plan of care to resolve your symptoms. In meantime, follow along for some tips and strategies for self-treatment.
